Dear GVCP Member:

NEXT REGULAR GVCP MEETING is SATURDAY, MARCH 19TH, 1:00 PM (Lunch), 1:30 PM (Meeting).  Omega Restaurant, 4182 Lakeville Rd (Route 20A) Geneseo.

This Month’s Letter: WRITE a Letter to President Obama to Take Concrete Action on Ending the US Blockade/Embargo on Cuba, and to Return Guantanamo to Cuba.

Some good things are happening about the US relationship with Cuba.  We welcome President Obama’s decision to travel to Cuba for talks with the Cuban government.  We call on President Obama to take concrete actions to restore normal diplomatic relations between the two countries:

The U.S. blockade/embargo of Cuba has been in place for 54 years!  The economic impact of this U.S. action has cost Cuba $117 billion already.  However, the blockade/embargo has probably cost the U.S. the same amount of money in lost sales!  Even the U.S. Chamber of Commerce—hardly a bastion of revolution—has called for an end to the blockade/embargo.  (The U.S. Chamber of Commerce wants commerce!)

The US Naval Base at Guantánamo The US Base at Guantánamo is 113 years old as of February 23, 2016.  It was the first foreign U.S. base in our hemisphere.  It is the oldest U.S. overseas base in the world, and the only one whose host country lacks contractual authority to unilaterally revoke it.  We call on President Obama to set a timetable for returning U.S. occupied Guantanamo to the Cuban nation. [From Alliance for Global Justice.]

Please write or call President Obama about Cuba
