The next regular GVCP Meeting is Sunday, January 22, 1:00 PM (Lunch), 1:30 PM (Meeting). Omega Restaurant, 4182 Lakeville Road (Route 20A), Geneseo. New members are welcome!
NOTE SPECIAL EVENT AT JANUARY 22ND MEETING!
TOM GRACE, Author of Kent State: Death and Dissent in the Long Sixties will give an informal presentation at the GVCP meeting!
In May 1970, at Kent State University, National Guard soldiers fired on peaceful college student protesters, killing or wounding thirteen students. Tom Grace was one of the student antiwar activists gunned down by the national guardsman at Kent State. He survived the shooting, and went on to receive a Ph.D. in history (from SUNY Buffalo), and, today, he’s an Adjunct Professor of History at Erie Community College.
Grace, who lives in Buffalo, has agreed to come to the January 22nd GVCP meeting to give an informal presentation. I particularly hope that members of our sister group, Geneseo Peace Action, will take advantage of this important opportunity. Tom Grace was an undergraduate when he was shot. What he will tell us will be as important today as it was in 1970. It’s possible that GVCP and Geneseo PA can arrange for Thomas Grace to give a formal on-campus presentation later in the semester. Now’s the chance to hear his story and decide whether it will work for a SUNY Geneseo audience.
