[GVCP] Tax Day protest

February 27, 2017
Dear GVCP Member,

At the most recent GVCP meeting, members agreed that we should have an action on or near Tax Day.  This year, April 18th is the day income taxes are due.  However, progressive groups are already planning Tax Day protests on Saturday, April 15th.

The link below is a useful start for considering what GVCP could do in regard to a protest around Tax Day. Personally, I’m not happy about combining Democratic Party events with events sponsored by nonpartisan peace and justice organizations.  Also, Saturday April 15th is the day before Easter, so that could be problematic.

GVCP wants to—and will—do something around Tax Day.  A committee has taken on the role of gathering suggestions and bringing a proposal for Tax Day to our next meeting.  The members of this subcommittee are Jim Allen, Susan Bailey, and Beth Harris.  The committee wants you to send in your suggestions about what GVCP should do—locally—to have an impact on Tax Day.

For the sake of simplicity, we ask that you send your suggestions to Jim Allen <allen@geneseo.edu>.  Jim will share the suggestions with the other committee members.

The core concept of our action will be how tax revenues could be directed away from nuclear weapons, and away from the Military-Industrial Complex, and used to fund human needs.  That fits in nicely with GVCP’s slogan—“Human Race not Arms Race.”

Please send your ideas to Jim.  We want to hear everyone’s voice.

Peace,

Arnie Matlin for GVCP
