?This Month’s Letter Korea [Sample letter based on material sent by PANYS]
We have a rare diplomatic opening that could lead to lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. We need you to support negotiations toward a new relationship between the U.S. and North Korea, and a reciprocal, step-by-step approach to replacing the 65-year old Armistice Agreement with a formal Peace Treaty to finally end the ongoing war. Eighty million people on the Korean Peninsula and peace-loving people around the world wish to see this. Over 70% of South Koreans want peace and reconciliation with the North, and over 54% of American voters applauded the U.S./North Korea Summit in June. Please build on this opportunity. Do not undermine it. We cannot afford to waste it.
Please seize this moment, realizing that peace in Korea can lead to peace and prosperity throughout North East Asia. Let us shift our priorities away from war and division. We urge that you commit to achieving lasting peace in Korea. Please support efforts toward a formal Peace Treaty that would build on the significant gains already made in inter-Korean peace talks this year, and take a bold stand for the U.S. to remain steadfast in its good faith diplomacy and negotiations with North Korea.
