This yearly event—our 45th year—is a very powerful, moving, public statement of our dedication to peace and nuclear disarmament. This year is the 74th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Please join us, and bring a friend! Note: Before the vigil, at 6:30 PM, some GVCP members will gather at Tom Wahl’s restaurant, 283 East Main St. (Routes 5 & 20) in Avon for a snack. All welcome!
This month’s letter: Amendments to National Defense Authorization Act
Peace Action NYS tracked 18 amendments to the NDAA, telling us which NY Representatives voted pro-peace or anti-peace. It will be no surprise that both Reps. Collins and Reed had a 0% pro-peace rating. It was wonderful that Rep. Morelle voted for pro-peace amendments. In fact, his record was an excellent 17/18 or 95%. He should be reinforced for this, and urged to keep up the good work.
WRITE TO: Your Representative. If it’s Collins or Reed, tell them how disappointed you are that they didn’t have even one pro-peace vote. If it’s Morelle, tell him how pleased you are about his strong pro-peace voting record. I called Morelle’s Washington, DC office and started with “I want to thank the Congressman.” Even though I’m not in his district, Representatives always like compliments! Postal address: U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, DC, 20515. Check their websites for email addresses and phone numbers.
If none of those three represent you, you can check the entire NYS list with this link:
