[GVCP] “No Name” by Marion Maxson

October 30, 2019
Dear GVCP member,

Our poet laureate, Marion Maxson, sent me a new poem.  With so many terrible events all over the world, the Rohingya humanitarian crisis has been pushed to the back burner.  The government of Myanmar has forced almost a million people from Rohingya to leave their homes and flee to Bangladesh as refugees.

If you want to learn more, here’s a link to Doctors Without Borders:

No Name

Rohingya baby
            in Bangladesh

Rohingya Mama
            just 14

Raped by soldiers
            Scorned

No Rohingya man
            will marry you now.

Shamed by the community
            that should welcome you,
                        help you heal,
                                    comfort you.

No one will help you
                        to name your baby
                     – – – –

I will name your baby
                        “Hope”

May she,
            born in sorrow
            born a slave
            born out of horror

May she
            tiny, perfect new-born baby
                        Bring you
                                    hope!
